Potter Drug Rochester opened its doors in 2018 with the goal of bringing high quality professional healthcare with friendly service to the Rochester community. We wanted to create a pharmacy where patients were treated like people, and not just numbers in a queue. That’s why when you speak, we listen, and when you walk through our doors, we are excited to greet you with a smile. Potter Drug Rochester has been voted “2019 BEST PHARMACY” in the SJR Readers’ Choice Awards. We have increased our delivery service to promptly serve both Rochester, and all of Springfield. We regularly give back through local donations and sponsorships. More than anything, we are proud of our commitment to making Community Pharmacy about the community and the people we serve!

Meet our Pharmacist

Michael Speck, Pharm. D
Michael received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, School of Pharmacy in 2011. After graduating, he went on to work as a pharmacist, and then a Pharmacy Manager for a large national chain pharmacy. “I didn’t feel like I had the time, and authority to truly take care of my patients,” he explained. “I felt like the culture only cared about performance metrics, and I was concerned about losing my job if I didn’t work faster to meet them. That’s not the way I want to practice pharmacy, or treat people.” In 2018 he partnered with Tim Gleason, the owner of Potter Drug in Petersburg, which has served its community since 1977, to bring a new pharmacy to Rochester. “We saw a community that we felt could really benefit from having a local pharmacy, so we worked to make it happen,” Michael said.

Michael focuses his practice of pharmacy on optimizing patients’ medication regimens, as well as their experience. “Some people need help getting healthier, and I’m here for that. I study their medications to make sure they are on a safe, and beneficial regimen. And some people are very stable, and well on the medications they take. So for them, their pharmacy shouldn’t be a place where it’s a time-consuming hassle to go and continue to be well. It should be a place where they are welcomed in and feel happy to visit. I provide that too.”
